Inaugural All Ireland Free Taking Competition 2013

We wish to invite a member of your adult team to participate in the Inaugural Free Taking Competition in Hurling on Saturday 20th July hosted by Kilmallock GAA club Kilmallock Co Limerick.

This Croke Park approved competition to be held on a annual basis, will test the skill of free taking of the competitor from various distances and angles The participants on the day will be reduced through a knock out system, culmination in a final between the two very best.

This has been a fun competition played in our club for many years at all ages, developing the skill of taking a free which we feel has being of great benefit to our players.

Please note that this competition in 2013 will be run on a “First Come First Served Basis” either by email or post to John O Donnell Runai “Griscarra” Treanlewis Kilmallock Co Limerick, closing date Friday 14th June.

Entry fee €20 and all participants will receive a souvenir top and refreshments will be served on the day, the winner will receive the All Ireland free taking trophy

Free taking Competition

Test your free taking against the best.

The Game

(1)   A player starts from the junction of 20-metre line with the right sideline (A), Takes free, if successful moves.

(2)   To the junction of the 45-metre line with the right sideline (B), takes a free and if successful moves,

(3)   To the centre of the field on the 65-metre line(C), takes a free and if successful moves,

(4)   To the junction of the 45-metre line with the left side line (D), Takes a free and if successful moves

(5)   To the junction of the 20 metre line with the left sideline (E) and takes a free.

 

 

The Rules

  • The competitor has now completed the event in the minimum number of shots.
  • If a competitor fails to score a free at any attempt from the spot, he must remain in that position until he is successful, therefore a minimum of 5 shots completes the course but it could take 10 or more.
  • The first Competitor to complete the event in the least number of shots is deemed the winner,
  • Every players ranking thereafter is determined at that time by the position on the field having completed the same number of shots,
  • On the event of a tie the players select a random position from 1to 5 and sudden death will apply.
  • The score successful or not will be determined by two umpires,
  • Frees are taken on rotation,
  • All players start at point (A),
  • Competitors can take the free on there left or right side,
  • A sliother once struck must go over the cross bar and between the uprights to be successful as deemed by the umpires.

 

 

Rules of entry

ü  A competitor must be over 17 years on first January on the competition year as per GAA rule,

ü  A competitor must complete an entry form.

ü  A competitor must tog out in his club colours.
