Junior A South League Final V Croom
Our juniors picked up their first piece of silverware this year when they ran out comprehensive winners on a scoreline of 3:14 to 1:6 in Ballyagran on Saturday. In wet and windy conditions the lads gave a solid performance and were well on top throughout.
From the moment Stan plucked the ball out of the clouds after ten seconds our backs were on top of their men and bringing the ball out of defense with confidence. Cul was his usual self in goals tidying up any dropping balls and launching attack after attack with his booming clearances. Not to be outdone Owen was on the end of many of these deliveries displaying a versatility that’s rare amongst netminders. I doubt there are many clubs in the country with three keepers of the calibre of Barry, Owen and Mike and no doubt all our adult team selectors will be kept on their toes picking the right man between the sticks. With Mark and Benny dominating midfield our forwards were getting plenty of ball and tapped over some decent scores. Paul showed his class with a brace of lovely points on the run and Ben Og nearly took the net off with his customary three-pointer. In fairness all the forwards got on the scoresheet with the score of the game coming from the tireless Mark Hayes, a massive effort from ninety yards out under the stand.
Five subs were introduced and all of them took up where the others left off and with last week’s two goal hero not even getting a run there are signs of a decent panel finally coming together. Donal Barry Jr. accepted the cup with the same aplomb that he showed marshalling the defense and hopefully we’ll hear more of his accomplished speech making as the year develops. Congrats to everyone involved and the bandwagon now moves on to Kilfinane on tuesday night for the final of the South Junior B versus Dromin Athlacca. Make the effort to support the boys, you won’t be disappointed.
