Under 10s success in Ballyhea tournament

Kilmallock u10s did it again last Sunday, this time at the annual Jack O’Sullivan tournament in Ballyhea.

Kilmallock got off to a flying start against Charleville and then beat Granard Gaels before getting the better of a strong Newtownshandrum side in the decisive group stage encounter.  Kilmallock players excelled all over the field, playing with heart, discipline and no little skill.  Then to the final against a tough Fermoy side.  Fermoy grabbed the lead with an early goal but Kilmallock stormed back into the game and led narrowly by half time.  The lads stood up to everything thrown at them in the second half and defied tiring limbs to drive on to victory.  Jack Moore accepted the cup on behalf of his team.

Cian Barrett, John Paul Houlihan and Gearoid Enright drove the team forward at every turn.  Jamie O’Flaherty and Gavin Freney were lethal in front of goal.  Sean Maguire, Robbie Maguire and Shane Dowling put in a tremendous shift not just in attack but also defending from the front.  The backs were like a brick wall.  Conor Dwyer, Jack Moore, Liam Murphy and James Collins broke up attack after attack and cleared their lines every time.  And Evan Heffernan shone like a beacon in goals – he saved everything bar the hay!

We had great support there on the day and it was much appreciated by the whole team.  And the town was treated to another victory parade on the way home!

Our thanks to our friends in Ballyhea GAA who treated us very well.  It is always a privilege to be invited to such a fine event.  And our thanks and best wishes to all the other participating teams in what was a high standard tournament.
