Senior Hurling All County League

Senior Hurling All County League – Tuesday 5th July 2016

Páirc Seán MhicGearailt, Kilmallock 7:30 p.m.
Kilmallock 0-19 Knockainey 1-14
The Baalbec had a well deserved two point win over a strong Knockainey team with ten of our regulars missing. Eoin Ryan opened the scoring with one of his five placed balls after just one minute on the clock. Knockainey were finding the range also but Robbie Egan pointed to level the game. Paddy O’Loughlin edged us ahead three points to two. Eoin Ryan hit another free and one from play. Conor Staunton grabbed another from play before Eoin hit two more frees before half time. The sides went in with Kilmallock trailing 0-7 Knockainey 0-8.
Five minutes into the second half and Bryan O’Sullivan got hold of the match and hit two unanswered points followed by the most skilful of hurling art – a sideline cut by Robbie Egan(should be worth 2pts but that’s another day)! Kevin O’Mahony came on for his brother Derek.
Andrew O’Shaughnessy, Paddy O’Loughlin and Liam Walsh (fresh from his wedding day duties) hit sublime points to put Kilmallock ahead 0-14 to 0-11. Kilmallock made two more changes – Josh Cahill for Paudie Kelly and Phelim O’Reilly for Tomás English. Eoin Ryan pointed from a free and Paddy O’Loughlin from play to make it 0-16 to 0-11. Conor Staunton took over free taking duty and duly obliged before Aaron Costello stormed through the middle and hit the black spot before Robbie finished off with a well taken point. In the final minutes Adam Costello pulled off a great stop with his foot but unfortunately he was unable to prevent the tap in.
Well done to all. The character in this squad is something else – battling and fighting for each other and the new lads fit in like gloves.
