First silverware of 2016

Junior A South Hurling League Final

Kilmallock 1-21 Bruff 0-5

Hospital was the venue for the Sheedy’s Centra Kilfinane sponsored Junior A South Hurling League Final.

Kilmallock found it hard to settle at first and Bruff pushed on. A point from Anthony Barrett and a point from Barry Sheedy still had us behind 04-02 midway through the first half. Conor Staunton tipped over two frees and Kilmallock started to settle into the game. Two more points from play by an impressive Anthony Barrett and another free from Conor Staunton put the Baalbec Boys 07-05 up at the break.
The second half was a way better encounter in Kilmallock eyes. Bennie Bourke played the captains role with two excellent points from play followed up by a timely goal from Derek O’Mahony. Substitute Paul Donna notched up another brace and points from Conor Barry, Kieran Kenneally, Barry Sheedy and three more from Conor Staunton and another four from Anthony Barrett wound up an excellent debut display.

This put Bruff well out of sight and the full time score was 1-21 to 0-5. Our defence faced a major onslaught before half time but held strong. They had no pressure in the second half and the boys went on to lift the first piece of silverware of the season as Bennie Burke collected the trophy.
Well done to the management, the players and to all involved.
