Under 14 Hurling Semi-Final

U 14 County Semi Final Kilmallock v Patrickswell, Saturday 21st September 2013.

Last Saturday in Bruff in the U14 county semi-final we played Patrickswell and gave our greatest hurling display of the year. Mike Houlihan had urged the boys to settle quickly and get as many scores on the board as possible early on.  David Woulfe again leading by example had taken heed and playing at full forward punished the Well with three first half goals.  Such was his prominence that two men ended up marking him.  This led to a Kilmallock player free further out the field and we totally dominated the middle third of the field.  Any attack the Well made was repelled by the outstanding Andrew Finn at full back.  Andrew was ably assisted by his two corner backs David O’ Connor and Seán Donegan.  Seán Barrett in goals was again outstanding and his confidence is now at an all time high.

The final ten minutes of the first half saw us under pressure for the first and only time in the game.  During this period we conceded 1:3 without reply.  On the resumption we settled down very quickly and found scores easy to come by.  We raced into an unassailable lead with great contributions by Mikey Donegan, Gearóid Barry, Pádraig O’ Connor and Thomas Savage.

In the final ten minutes Liam English added a great goal after a sublime pass from Tom Savage.  This came just after Gearóid Barry had rattled Patrickswell’s net. The final score was KIlmallock 5:10 and Patrickswell 1:9.

We play Mungret in the County Final at a venue and time yet to be decided.
